The Hakone Open Air Museum covers over 70,000 square feet and has one of the most impressive collection of sculptures and works of Pablo Picasso in the world with a beautiful backdrop of the Hakone mountains.

The Hakone Open Air Museum is an outdoor museum dedicated to a world class display of sculptures in a serene, beautiful and natural surrounding. The Picasso Pavilion within the museum houses a wide and varied collection of art by the famous artist.

Access to the Hakone Open Air Museum is easy and convenient. The best way to get here is by the Hakone Tozan Train. The museum is a short 3 minute walk up the hill on the left when you exit the station. The most popular bus stop to use when coming from Yumoto or Lake Ashi is the Ninotaira Iriguchi bus stop. The museum is a five minute was down the hill from here.

Tickets to the museum are ¥1600 for adults and ¥800 for children. Purchase your tickets at the front, there are also lockers to store your stuff outside the train station or in front of the gates of the museum.

The Picasso Pavilion

Once you enter the museum you will go down the escalator that opens up into the beautiful and spacious grounds that feature many of the outdoor sculptures. Take time to walk and admire all the impress pieces of world class art work and the lush natural surroundings. Make your way down to the Picasso Pavilion to see one of the most impressive collections of Picasso art in the world.

Kid Friendly Art

There are also kid friendly art work that they can play on, climb, and explore. There are also restaurants and a gift shop to enjoy during your visit. The Hakone Open Air Museum is rightfully considered one of Japan`s best museums and appeals to all. The museum is open from 9:00 to 17:00 all year round.
