The Tokugawa Shogunate erected 53 sekisho throughout Japan to inspect travelers, especially women and weapons. The Hakone Sekisho was one of the most important of them. It appeared again at the lakeside of Ashi in 2007. The scenic location, between Lake Ashi and Mt.Byobu, is just a gateway of the journey to Hakone.
