Choanji Temple

Choanji Temple (長安寺) is a temple of the Soto school of Zen in the Sengokuhara.

Established in 1356 in a quiet area at the base of a hill, the atmospheric temple has a small network of pleasant walking trails.

The 500 Rakan is a total of 500 Buddha’s disciples who trained the Buddha and got the highest rank as a human being called “Arakan”.
With a rich expression of emotion, Buddha looks like truly human.
Everything is different from the expression and the emotion which appears little by little, and it is strange, and it is noticed the variety of man’s feelings.

The 500 Rakans in the bamboo grove, where the quiet and dignified air flows, began to be built in 1985 and continue to be built.
